All hail Daylight Savings Time!

The news media seems to be obsessed with daylight savings time, an obsession that completely eludes me. Recently, my local newspaper, The Denver Post, or what’s left of it, offered up unsolicited advice on how to make moving the clock forward one hour, a mere 60 minutes, in the spring “less miserable.” Are humans so mentally and emotionally weak now that they are “miserable” when the time changes?

Clock with “Don’t forget to spring forward” message.
Spring forward. Play ball!

The same week, the Other Post (the one in Washington DC) ran a piece on how damaging this time switch is to our health. Really? Or is this OCD media coverage just another manifestation of how self-absorbed humans have become?

I’m moving toward my 77th year on the planet and never — NEVER — have I or my family been “miserable” over daylight savings time. To the contrary, It was a time of excitement — more time for night games as a kid, extra light for those after school baseball games, an extra hour at the lake, more time for that gentle and relaxing evening sunlight signaling the remains of the day, more time for an after dinner walk or relaxing work in the garden.

Is it official now that every little thing in life causes us misery? When other humans are being blown apart and starved to death in Ukraine and Gaza, we worry about the “misery” caused by switching to daylight savings time?

DST — may it live forever!
